Photo Workshop

Light It Up: Portrait Lighting Workshop
Saturday, February 7, 2026
Noon to 4:00 p.m.

Doors open at 11:30 AM
Limited to 20 attendees

Ever wondered how photographers create portraits with beautiful light and dramatic mood? Now’s your chance to learn!

Join us on Saturday, February 7th, 2026, for a 4-hour hands-on lighting workshop led by our very own Patrick Brosnan, MNEC. From 12:00–4:00 PM, Patrick - assisted by Skip Hoyt, HonNEC - will walk us through the fundamentals of portrait lighting using 1 to 4 mono lights, right here at the club.

This workshop is designed to be practical and approachable. You’ll not only see the setups explained, but you’ll also have time to try it yourself.  Pocket Wizards will be provided, so you can focus on learning and shooting. There will be no models-this will be done with group participation. It is a lighting teaching workshop not a model shoot. Equipment needed is a camera and lens in the range of 28 to 70MM for full length and 85 to 150 MM for portraits or a zoom lens ~28 to 135mm or 70-200mm or same equipment you would bring to a model session at the club.

Patrick brings a wealth of real-world experience, including weddings, senior portraits, business portraits, dance schools, and team photography. He’ll share tips and techniques that translate across styles and skill levels. Skip is cochair of our GLPA model sessions at the club and also a wedding photographer, portrait photographer and was chairman of the model sessions at the NECCC Conference.

If time and interest allow, Patrick will also demonstrate basic retouching at the end of the session (demo only, not hands-on).

Come see how control of light transforms portraits. When you learn to shape light and shadow, you don’t just take a photo—you become the painter and director of the scene. We hope to see you there!

There is plenty of parking behind the club or in church lot next door to the club if our lot is filled.
