Fundamentals' Photo Group

Barbara Rozavsky, HonNEC, Group Leader

(available to members only)

Everyone gets started using a camera in a different way. Some have taken a photo course. Others are self-taught. We wind up with some gaps in our knowledge. Or we want to learn how to do something we’ve never tried before. Sometimes it helps to have some personal instruction time in a small group setting to help us or to share tips with each other. That’s what the Fundamentals Group hopes to do.

The sessions will be in person on Tuesday evenings—one each month, September through May—from 7:30–9:00 PM. Bring your camera and camera manual with you to help facilitate answers to your camera questions.

For this year, every month will have a designated type of photography to bring examples of. We will discuss the images as to what worked, what didn’t, and what techniques might improve the image for your next attempt. Then there will be some instruction about how to shoot the theme for the images due at the next meeting. We’re hoping that this type of structure will inspire you to get out and photograph and also learn some fundamental techniques along the way.

As always, questions are welcome—especially if submitted to me in advance so I have time to prepare some instructional materials if necessary. If your question is specific to your camera, make sure to let me know the make and model and bring your camera and instruction manual to the group meeting.

Here is the schedule for the next sessions:

November 12, 2024: Submit an image or two with a fall theme for discussion. Instruction will be on photographing moving water.

December 10, 2024: Submit an image or two with moving water. Instruction will be on photographing holiday lights.

January 7, 2025: Submit an image or two of holiday lights. Instruction will be about photographing snow and/or ice.

February 4, 2025: Submit an image or two with snow or ice. Instruction will be about limiting depth of field. (It’s not just f /stop.)

March 4, 2025: Submit an image or two showing limited depth of field. Instruction will be on still life and/or tabletop photography in advance of the Photo Ops Day on 3/22.

April 8, 2025: Submit an image or two of a still life or tabletop subject. Instruction topic TBA (send suggestions).

May 6, 2025: TBA

If you are going to submit images for a monthly session, contact me and I’ll send you a link to the folder I’ve set up.

Prior to each month’s session, please contact me with your questions at fundamentals@greaterlynnphoto.org
