COVERS BOTH DIGITAL AND FILM CAMERAS
The annual GLPA Photo Course will run for 5 weeks on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting on Tuesday, October 9th. Registrants will be allowed to select the sessions that best addresses their needs.  The basic fee of $60 ($40 for GLPA members)  includes 5 sessions of one’s choice plus the Image Critique session.  One may add as many additional sessions as desired for only $15 per session ($10 for GLPA members). All classes will start promptly at 7:30 pm.  Course flyers which include a registration form will be available at the club for the first meeting on September  10th.  A brief description of each session, the respective instructor and dates follows.

The camera course is offered annually in the fall at the Greater Lynn Photographic Association and always has been designed for a broad appeal to both the "would be" and the "active" photographer. The content of the course  includes the digital format and allows the registrants to select the sessions that best address their needs.
All classes are taught by qualified instructors and will startat 7:30PM.. Every effort is made to provide personal attention. See the next page for brief descriptions the sessions.

all registrants are invited to participate in the Image Critique. 

DESCRIPTIONS OF SESSIONS
(F = Film; D = Digital; B = Both film and digital
Directions:
95/128 and Route 1

95/128 to Exit 43 East, Walnut Street in Lynnfield
At stop sign at end of ramp, go right onto Walnut Street. Go straight through the traffic light. You will go over Route 1.

Go four miles toward Lynn. There will be a ball park on the left with a long granite building after it. Take the next (soft) right at the lights onto Myrtle Street.

Go straight through the 4 way stop sign intersection (carefully) and at the next set of lights, go left onto Boston Street. Go through one set of lights and we are across the street from the church (just after the flashing yellow light).

Please try to park in the rear of the Club lot.

D1,  F1   Camera Basics (Digital & Film SLR)
Tues., 10/9   Digital – Rick Cloran, FPSA, MNEC

Basic elements of the Single Lens Reflex camera and how they affect your final picture will be covered.  Following the lecture, GLPA members will lead small groups according to camera make and model in a “hands on” workshop to review “your camera”.

D2   Operation of the Point & Shoot Digital Camera
  Tues., 10/16 – Jana Conway

Attendees will explore the digital point & shoot camera from menu operations to the various modes available on most camera models.  They will learn how and why to use various exposure modes showing the results obtained with those modes.  The session concludes with small group instruction to help you with questions about “your” camera.

D3   Introduction to the Digital Darkroom
  Tues., 10/23 – Len Tremblay

Len will teach you fun tips and tricks using commonly available software to improve and enhance your digital images.  You will learn the basics for correcting common and will also learn how easy it is to make your images “pop” in the digital darkroom.

D4.   Managing and Storing Digital Image Files
  Tues., 10/30 – David Drislane

This session will show you the advantages of using digital files for storage and file management, how to set up the computer and software that makes the task easier.


D5   Printing Your Digital Images
  Tues., 11/6 – Amy Musinsky

This session covers color management including profiling, paper, printer types, ink types and longevity, the use of photo software to control output colors and also printing done by outside labs.

B1   Image Craft
  Thurs.,  10/11 – Jacob Mosser,  FPSA, HonNEC

An in-depth look at the basic elements of a photograph.  Subject, composition and light are explored using detailed examples of these building blocks of an image and the thought process involved in creating photographic art.  Applicable to projected images or prints, film or digital.


B2  Basic Flash Photography
   Thurs., 10/18 – Barbara Rozavsky, MNEC

The basics of flash use are covered in this session.  Topics include the parts of the flash, power supplies, manual and automatic flash use, on camera or external flash, dedicated flash, white balance and avoiding typical flash problems


B3   The Use of Lenses
  Thurs., 10/25 – Jacob Mosser, FPSA, HonNEC

A comprehensive lecture describing the special characteristics of all types of lenses, fisheye through super telephoto, zooms and other special purpose lenses with illustrations of their special applications.


B4   Action Sports Photography
  Thurs., 11/1 – Andrew Katsampes

A very interesting session especially for those who want to photograph their children or others engaged in action sports.  Equipment used in action sports photography in addition to composition, timing, positioning and other tips and techniques will be covered.  Sports that will be discussed are soccer, baseball, lacrosse, equestrian events etc. 

B5   A Critique of Your Slides, Prints & Digital Images
   Thurs., 11/8 – Rick Cloran, FPSA, MNEC

For this final session each student may bring in 2 to 4 images such as slides,  digital images on CD, or prints having a minimum size of 5 x 7.  Your work will receive both appropriate praise and constructive criticism with an eye toward improving your technique.
