The annual GLPA Photo Course runs for six weeks. All classes start promptly at 7:30 pm.
The camera course is offered annually in the fall at the Greater Lynn Photographic Association and always has been designed for a broad appeal to both the "would be" and the "active" photographer. The content of the course is devoted mostly to the digital camera and covers its operation and also the use of post-processing software. The fee for the entire course of seven session is $75 ($50 for GLPA members). This modest fee gives you access to a wealth of information.
All classes are taught by qualified instructors and will startat 7:30PM. Every effort is made to provide personal attention.
Attendance is limited and advanced registration is recommended. The registration form can be printed out from the pdf form below.
Directions:

95/128 to Exit 43 East, Walnut Street in Lynnfield
At stop sign at end of ramp, go right onto Walnut Street. Go straight through the traffic light. You will go over Route 1.
Go four miles toward Lynn. There will be a ball park on the left with a long granite building after it. Take the next (soft) right at the lights onto Myrtle Street.
Go straight through the 4 way stop sign intersection (carefully) and at the next set of lights, go left onto Boston Street. Go through one set of lights and we are across the street from the church (just after the flashing yellow light).
Please try to park in the rear of the Club lot.

Session 1
OPERATION OF THE POINT AND SHOOT DIGITAL CAMERA

Instructor: Jana Conway
This intro to the point-and-shoot digital camera (a camera with no option for changing lenses) explores the camera from menu operations to the various modes available on most camera models, discusses the how and why of using those exposure modes, and shows the results obtained from choosing the various modes. Instruction is provided in controlling the settings to produce the results you are looking for. The evening concludes with small-group instruction to help you with any questions about your individual camera. Please bring your camera and its instruction manual.
Session 2
DIGITAL SLR CAMERA BASICS (Tues., 10/19)
Instructors: (Digital) Rick Cloran, FPSA, MNEC
This session will explore the basic elements of the camera and how they affect your final picture. The discussion will focus primarily on single lens reflex (SLR) cameras. An SLR is a camera that allows the use of interchangeable lenses. Following the lecture, GLPA members familiar with the different makes and models will lead small-group discussions to reinforce the material presented and to answer questions specific to the cameras of group participants. Please bring your camera and its instruction manual.
Session 3
IMAGE CRAFT
(Tues., 10/26)
Instructor: Jake Mosser, FPSA, HonNEC
Image Craft offers an in-depth look at the basic elements of the photograph. Subject, composition, and light are explored using detailed examples of these building blocks of an image and the thought process involved in creating photographic art. Jake will give a brief review of relationship between apertures and shutter speeds for proper exposure. This session will improve your ability to create an effective photograph.
Session 4
PC COMPUTER BASICS/MANAGING FILES AND IMAGES

This class is geared toward those just entering the world of digital photography and the use of personal computers to store and manage their images. Rick will begin with a review of basic Windows PC file management (based on Windows XP operating system). The session will then explore moving image files from your camera storage media (e.g., compact flash cards, SD cards) to your computer, arranging them in file folders, back-up basics, attaching images to a message, and creating CDs of your images. Barbara will cover the same information for those who are Mac users. The classes will run simultaneously.
Session 5
INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 8

Instructor: Rick Cloran, FPSA, MNEC
This introduction to the latest version of one of the most popular photo-editing programs will explore its basic functionality. The instructor will examine opening files, the primary tools in the Edit module for working on your images, simple enhancement and adjustment techniques, sizing images, and preparation for printing images. Both the “automated” tools and alternative methods for key steps in working on images will be explored. Barbara Rozavsky will be here to address any Mac questions.
Session 6
PRINTING YOUR DIGITAL IMAGES (Tues., 11/16)
Instructor: Amy Musinsky, MNEC
This session covers color management including profiling, paper, printer types (ink jet, offset, dye sublimation, photo direct), ink types and longevity, the use of photo software to control output colors, and printer services and printing by outside labs.

You have the camera but what do you do now? These sessions begin with the fundamentals of digital cameras— both dSLR (interchangeable lenses) and point and shoot. They then advance to principles of photography for the serious amateur.
